ISISA is an independent, voluntary, non-profit scholarly association established in 1992, dedicated to studying islands on their own terms and fostering global interdisciplinary collaboration.
Our Mission
ISISA encourages critical, place-based research into small island environments, cultures, and governance. We work to strengthen the networking of small island communities through conferences, publications, and digitally mediated discussions.
Conferences
Since 1986, our flagship Islands of the World conference series has brought together researchers, practitioners, and islanders from around the world.
Publications
The non-fee charging open access, peer-reviewed Island Studies Journal is the official journal of ISISA.
The ISISA Research Archive hosts publications by ISISA members.
